East London Line, London
Project Factfile
Project Name: East London Line, London
Project Type: Site Clearance
Client: Taylor Woodrow Construction
Date/Duration: July 2006
Site Clear Solutions Ltd were requested to perform a site clearance of 2 arch units and an external yard area for Taylor Woodrow Construction, the sites were vacated by the previous tenants, leaving various debris and hazardous wastes including waste oils, oil contaminated solids and WEEE wastes.
Following an initial site survey, a full site-specific method statement and risk assessment were produced. The sites were cleared in three phases, with clearance requiring the removal of a variety of wastes, including paint tins, oil drums, tyres, car engines and disused computer units.
All waste materials were removed from site by an authorised waste carrier, as registered with the Environment Agency, for disposal to a suitably licensed waste management facility in accordance with the requirements of The Environmental Protection Act 1990; The Hazardous Waste (England & Wales) Regulations (2005); and subsequent regulations. Waste Transfer and Hazardous Waste notes were supplied in accordance with current legislation.
All work was undertaken in accordance with pre-agreed Method Statements/Risk Assessments and all current relevant Health & Safety legislation. All on-site personnel were fully briefed on the method statement and associated risk and COSHH assessments and CSCS certified in line with Taylor Woodrow Construction’s on site policy.
Due to the location of the sites access was extremely limited and skip sitings blocked access to other properties. In order to overcome this difficulty, skips were delivered in the early morning and loaded and exchanged immediately following delivery.
The works undertaken by Site Clear Solutions on this project were highly praised by Taylor Woodrow Construction.
